Anders Ahlsson

Anders Ahlsson is the Director of Health Care in Stockholm. He is responsible for the health care system in the county, including finance and reimbursement models, quality and control of health care providers, and support to the political organization. With a background as a consultant and associate professor in cardiac surgery, Anders has contributed significantly to various European guidelines in cardiology and cardiac surgery, participating as a task force member. Currently, his primary areas of focus include leadership, strategic decision-making, and judgment. In addition to his duties in Stockholm, Anders is actively involved in national committees related to healthcare and education.

Rob Allen

Rob Allen is the president and CEO of Intermountain Health, a leading nonprofit health system headquartered in Utah with locations in six states and operations across the western U.S. In 2023, Modern Healthcare named Rob as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare. Rob has served in executive leadership roles at Intermountain for 28 years of his 30+ year health leadership career. He is a nationally recognized leader in advancing value-based care and has multiple achievements around advancing rural health, telehealth, affordability, and continuous improvement. Prior to beginning his role as president and CEO in November 2022, Rob served as chief operating officer for five years. He was named as one of the top 25 COOs in healthcare by Modern Healthcare. He has also held CEO roles at hospitals and health systems in Wyoming, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Rob earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Utah State University and a Bachelor of Science in operations management from Brigham Young University. He was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree by Rocky Vista University. Rob’s love of healthcare began during his childhood as he was raised on a farm in rural Wyoming, where his mother served as a nurse and later as administrator at Star Valley Hospital. Rob and his wife, Becky, have three children and six grandchildren.

Dr. Anke Diehl, M.D., M.A., is Chief Transformation Officer and Head of the Digital Transformation Unit at the University Medicine Essen (UME). As a medical doctor with broad clinical and scientific experience (neurology, psychiatry, neuroradiology and radiology), she is responsible for implementing innovative projects as part of the smart hospital’s digitization strategy. Prior to her position as Digital Change Manager of UME, she was head of the department of health care structure development in one of the subordinate divisions of the Ministry of Health NRW (LZG.NRW). The expert for digital medicine has been consortium leader of the leading edge cluster of artificial intelligence in medicine “SmartHospital.NRW“ since March 2021. She is a member of numerous committees, such as the scientific advisory board of Medizin.NRW, the board of SMITH (Smart Medical Information Technology for Healthcare/German Medical Informatics Initiative) and the medical advisory board to accompany the development of a telematics infrastructure for healthcare in NRW. End of 2021, Dr. Diehl was appointed by the German Federal Ministry of Health and the Gematik to the 7-member National Expert Panel “Interop Council” and won the „Medical Woman of the Year 2021“ award (German Medical Awards). She is also member of the Expert Panel „Ausschuss Digitalisierung in der Gesundheitsversorgung“ of the German Federal Medical Association.

Alan J. Forster MD, FRCPC, MSc is the Vice President, Innovation, Transformation, and Clinical Performance at the McGill University Health Center and the McGill University Professor for Health Innovation. Over his career, he has led local, national, and international efforts to improve healthcare quality. His research programs have contributed to over 240 publications in peer review journals and innumerable advances in quality. Lasting contributions include his impact on the development of a model for learning health systems leveraging healthcare data. In recognition of his contributions, he was listed as one of Canada’s top 10 healthcare power brokers by Maclean’s Magazine in April 2023 and named to the International Society for Quality in Healthcare’s International Academy for Quality and Safety in Healthcare in July 2023.

Julian Hartley

JULIAN HARTLEY
Julian joined NHS Providers as chief executive in February 2023, having been chief executive of Leeds Teaching Hospitals since 2013. NHS Providers is the membership organisation for the NHS hospital, mental health, community and ambulance services that treat patients and service users in the NHS. We help those NHS foundation trusts and trusts to deliver high-quality, patient-focused care by enabling them to learn from each other, acting as their public voice and helping shape the system in which they operate. NHS Providers has all trusts in England in voluntary membership, collectively accounting for £115bn of annual expenditure and employing 1.4 million people. During his decade of service at Leeds, Julian led a major programme of culture change and staff engagement to deliver improved quality, operational and financial performance. In 2019 Julian was asked by Baroness Dido Harding, Chair of NHS Improvement, to be the executive lead for the interim NHS People Plan. He previously worked as managing director of NHS Improving Quality – a national organisation set up to drive change and improvement across the NHS. Julian’s career in the NHS began as a general management trainee working in the North East of England. Following his training, he worked in a number of NHS management posts at hospital, health authority and regional level. His first board director appointment was at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust, where he was responsible for planning, operations and strategy. Julian led Tameside and Glossop Primary Care Trust (PCT) as chief executive for three years, where he took it to three-star status, developed new Primary Care Centres and managed the PCT’s involvement in the Shipman Inquiry. From 2005, Julian was chief executive of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, seeing the trust transform and go on to achieve major financial turnaround, secure Foundation Trust status and become one of the first trusts in the country to meet 18-week targets. In addition, Julian chaired the North West Leadership Academy. Julian was appointed chief executive of University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust in June 2009 and led a major turnaround in MRSA reduction, A&E and 18 week performance. He also introduced a major programme of cultural change to improve patient experience and outcomes. Julian was awarded Knight Bachelor for services to healthcare in the 2022 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

As President of Thomas Jefferson University, he directed a merger between an almost two century old health science university and a nationally ranked university for design and architecture. Christoph A. Meier is Director of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University Hospital Zürich and holds a faculty appointment at the University of Geneva. In 2022, Sara became the first person in the world to earn a PhD with a thesis on personal science. She is a well-known patient leader, highly appreciated speaker, and was named Swede of the year in medicine 2018. Sara advises, among others, the British Medical Journal, the Swedish Medical Products Agency, the Swedish National Board for Health and Welfare, and the Swedish Governmental Agency on Innovation Systems.

Debbie Salas-Lopez

As senior vice president of community and population health, Debbie Salas-Lopez, MD, MPH, oversees Northwell Health’s community and public health strategy, including community health equity, community relations, strategic community partnerships, corporate social responsibility, and the Community Health Needs Assessment. Dr. Salas-Lopez’s leadership was critical during the COVID-19 pandemic. She and her team partnered with many community and faith-based leaders to identify their most-pressing needs. This became the catalyst for the creation of Northwell’s Health Equity Taskforce composed of more than 100 community, faith, and tribal nation leaders that today continue to work on equity and social issues that impact health. Dr. Salas-Lopez joined Northwell in 2019 as senior vice president for transformation, responsible for system value-based initiatives that improve health and care delivery. She assumed her leadership role after serving as the chief transformation officer at Lehigh Valley Health Network, where she led strategy and oversaw a unique and broad portfolio, including community-based and population health initiatives, telehealth, connected care, and innovation, strategic partnerships, and operational redesigning of the clinical delivery system. Dr. Salas-Lopez is a nationally recognized speaker and educator on women leaders, healthcare disparities and equity in care, cultural awareness and language-appropriate services, and the impact of social and economic factors on health. In 2021, Modern Healthcare named her to its annual Top 25 Women Leaders as a “Woman to Watch.” She also received the 2021 Tribute to Excellence in Health Care award from the United Hospital Fund. Dr. Salas-Lopez was recognized in 2021 by the Hospital Association of New York State with a Community Health Improvement Award. Melvin Samsom has a distinguished career, both as a gastroenterologist, a scientist and as an administrator. Currently, he serves as a non-executive director of Bupa, a global health insurance and healthcare provider spanning five continents. Additionally, Melvin chairs the supervisory committee overseeing the Reorganization of the Academic Care Landscape for the Dutch Ministry of Health and holds the position of Chair of the supervisory board at the Oncode Institute. He also serves as a Senior National and International Advisor for KPMG Health. Melvin has been honored with a prestigious personal grant from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. His research experience extends to institutions such as the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia, the Mayo Clinic in the United States, and the University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands. Previously, Melvin Samsom served as the Chief Executive Officer of Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden, where his leadership ushered in a groundbreaking operating model centered around the patient journey. Under his guidance, the commissioning of one of the largest and most technologically advanced hospital buildings was successfully completed. Prior to his tenure in Sweden, Melvin held the positions of CEO and CMO at the Radboud University Medical Center in the Netherlands, orchestrating a significant organizational turnaround. More recently, he crafted the Health, Wellbeing, and Biotech strategy for NEOM, aspiring to establish the healthiest place in the world. This strategy emphasizes proactive prevention and world-class treatment of diseases. Melvin has also contributed as a Senior International Advisor to the Health Holding Company and has been a member of several Health Clusters in Saudi Arabia.

Arthur Schellekens

Arthur Schellekens is chief executive officer of the Dutch Patient Federation, an advocacy organization with circa 90 professionals representing more than 200 patient organizations. The Federation is committed to all people requiring healthcare, now and in the future. It gives patients a voice: in the consulting room, in policy making, in research activities and in the politics by advising, actively cocreating with stakeholders and by lobbying activities. By gathering and analyzing individual experiences of patients, the Dutch Patient Federation is bridging the gap between patients’ needs and the healthcare offered. Part of this effort is to provide patients with a comprehensive, yet easy-to-understand information thereby helping them make informed choices. Arthur Schellekens (1970) is an experienced and dedicated officer with expertise in managing non-profit organizations with a bit of a business slant. He has been director of the Dutch Association of Youth Care and Child Protective Services, the Dutch Association of Public Libraries and the Royal Dutch Association of Realtors (amongst others). Arthur has a Master’s degree in Public Administration. He is a practical person, realizing that only collaboration and co-creation can lead to truly meaningful and long-term results.

Munjal Shah

Munjal Shah is the co-founder and CEO of Hippocratic AI, a startup building the first safety-focused large language model (LLM) for healthcare. The company is on a mission to dramatically improve healthcare access, equity and outcomes through the use of generative AI. Munjal is a serial entrepreneur, startup adviser, and investor. He was co-founder and CEO of an AI company that was acquired by Google and a marketplace management, research and analytics company eventually sold to Alibaba. He graduated from Stanford with a Masters in Computer Science, focused on AI. Prior to Hippocratic AI, Munjal spent 10 years as co-founder and CEO of a healthcare startup leveraging AI to analyze health records to help seniors select the best Medicare Advantage plan.

Thea Stein is the Chief Executive of the Nuffield Trust. She took up the post in September 2023. Thea was previously Chief Executive at Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, and before then Chief Executive of Carers Trust, Yorkshire Forward and North East Leeds Primary Care Trust. Thea has also held a number of non-executive roles in housing organisations and academia. Thea was a trustee of the Nuffield Trust between 2019 and 2023.

Elad Walach is a co-founder and CEO of Aidoc. He is an expert in AI with visionary business insights in the healthcare space. Since establishing Aidoc in early 2016, Elad led the company through 4 investment rounds bringing the total investment to $250M, drove the commercial availability of 20 product lines, created an install base of over 1,000 global hospitals while growing the company to over 400 employees. Elad began his career in the elite Israeli Defense Force technology program “Talpiot”. He led AI research in the Israeli Air Force where he initiated and managed several teams focused on machine learning and computer vision projects.
